Morty's Delicatessen

It's a little out of my standard downtown lunch zone, and a colorful walk through the Tenderloin, but Morty's Delicatessen is the real deal. Walk through the gritty front door, and you'll find a comfortable spot serving classic sandwiches.

I had the Golden Gate Club, roasted turkey, proscuitto, swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and pesto aioli for $6.99. The crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside roll was stuffed with shredded turkey and proscuitto. The tomato slice was thick and juicy, and there was just the right ammount of aioli to make it slighty sloppy.

Schwarma at Ayola

I am of the general opinion that places to eat with built-in customer bases tend to be of poor quality. The biggest offender in the category tend to be lunch places close to schools. I have been eyeing up Ayola, a falafel and schwarma joint, for some time now, and despite all its wonderful reviews on Yelp, it, unfortunately, proved my hypothesis. The SF Academy of Art is a stones throw from here, and the food reflects that.

I opted for the 9' schwarma, which was 7.95. Its not that it was bad, but for what it was, it was expensive. The flavor was merely OK, and the tomatoes were of the crunchy, white-ish variety.

According to Yelp, they have spectacular fries, which I didn't try. Maybe another time, if I ever go back...
